Free Twitter analytics tools in 2026: what still works on X
Published 2026-10-15
Verdict
Start with X's own Post Activity Dashboard: it is free, it shows impressions, and it exports 30 days at a time. Add Buffer's free plan if you also schedule posts. Use Talkwalker's free search for what people say about a brand, not for your own account. Skip any list that still names Tweepi, TweetReach or ManageFlitter: they are gone. The profile checkers Google's AI Overview links read public numbers on any account: use them on competitors, not to report on your own.
How we judged
- It works with X today, and the vendor's own page says so.
- It is free with no time limit. A 7-day or 14-day trial does not count.
- It shows numbers per post or per mention, not only a follower count.
- Its history limit is stated, so you know when the data disappears.
Use X’s own Post Activity Dashboard first. It is free, it shows impressions and engagement for every post, and it exports 30 days at a time. Beyond that, only two free options passed our check: Buffer’s free plan, if you also schedule posts, and Talkwalker’s free search, for conversation about a brand. Google’s AI Overview for the same search links two different tools: profile checkers that read any account’s public numbers and cannot see your impressions.
The list is short for a reason. In 2020, a roundup on Wishpond’s blog named ten free Twitter analytics tools, and this site republished it. On 12 October 2026, seven of those ten were gone or no longer free, and X’s API prices explain why nothing replaced them.
The 2020 list, checked in October 2026
| 2020 tool | Status on 12 October 2026 |
|---|---|
| Twitter Analytics | Now X Analytics. Still free. The first pick below |
| Followerwonk | Part of Fedica. Fedica’s Free plan has no analytics |
| Twitonomy | Online, but it has no pricing page, and its premium page shows only a sign-in |
| Foller.me | Online, but frozen. Its sample profile was last updated in April 2023 |
| Klear | Bought by Meltwater. The domain redirects to a sales page with no free plan |
| Keyhole | Part of Muck Rack. The pricing page redirects to a demo request |
| ManageFlitter | Closed. “As of January 2022, the ManageFlitter service is no longer available” |
| TweetReach | The domain is parked |
| Mentionmapp | The domain redirects through unrelated sites |
| Tweepi | The domain no longer resolves |
Why nothing free replaced them
Every third-party analytics tool reads your posts through the X API. In February 2023, X announced the end of free API access. Since 6 February 2026, X sells new API access per use.
The math, in X’s own prices. A tool that refreshes the numbers on your last 100 posts once a day reads 3,000 posts a month. At $0.005 per post read, you cost that tool $15 a month as a free user. X has a cheaper rate, $0.001 per read, but only when the app belongs to the account it reads. Build the same app for your own account and those 3,000 reads cost $3 a month.
At pay-per-use rates, a free plan that costs the vendor $15 per user does not last. Of the 15 current tools we checked, 7 have no free plan, 4 have one without X analytics, and 1 dropped X entirely.
What still works for free
To see your own posts: X’s Post Activity Dashboard
X calls it “a free service available to all X users” who have an ads account or register at analytics.x.com.
- Per post: impressions, engagements and engagement rate, split into organic and promoted.
- Per video: retention, view rate and completion rate.
- History: the last 28 days by default. You can change the date range.
- Export: a CSV of up to 30 days at a time, capped at 3,000 posts per file.
- Delay: numbers update within seconds but can take up to 36 hours to settle.
One caveat. Since June 2024, X’s own @premium account has advertised “advanced account analytics” for Premium subscribers. The help page above does not say which views need Premium, and we could not check it without a logged-in account.
Keep your own history. The dashboard has no long-term archive you control. Export the CSV once a month and you build one for free.
To schedule and measure in one place: Buffer’s free plan
- Free forever, up to 3 channels, 10 scheduled posts per channel at a time.
- X support: Buffer lists publishing, analytics and engagement for X. The Sent tab shows each post’s likes, clicks, reposts and impressions.
- History: Insights keeps 30 days on the free plan. Custom date ranges and exports are paid.
It is the only one of the 15 current tools we checked whose free plan connects an X account and shows X analytics.
To track a brand or topic: Talkwalker Free Social Search
This does not connect your account. It searches public conversation about a brand, competitor, hashtag or topic, with X among its sources.
- Shows: mentions, sentiment, engagement and influencers.
- Limit: seven days of data and a limited set of sources.
- Sign-up: an email form, then a login link.
What Google’s AI Overview sends you to
Search Google for free Twitter analytics tools and the AI Overview answers before any list does. In Ahrefs’ capture of the US results on 13 October 2026, it linked two tools. Neither is on the 2020 list or among the 15 we checked: xholic.ai’s X Profile Analytics and Tweet Hunter’s Metrics Calculator.
Both do a different job from the dashboard. You type in any public handle and get its views, engagement rate and top posts. Neither connects your account, so neither sees what only the account owner sees.
- Xholic: free, no sign-up. It uses “public data only”: public posts, public view counts and the public profile. Its own page says impression breakdowns are not accessible to outside tools.
- Tweet Hunter’s calculator: reads a profile’s last 100 original posts from the X API and caches the result for 24 hours. That is the worked example above, run once: 100 reads at $0.005 is $0.50 a check. The cache means each profile is read about once a day, however many people look it up.
Neither page says how far back its numbers go, so both fail our fourth criterion. The AI Overview put two jobs in one answer: measuring your own posts and sizing up someone else’s. Use the profile checkers for a competitor or a creator you might hire. Report on your own account from X’s dashboard.
Checked and left out
| Tool | Why it is not here |
|---|---|
| Metricool | The Free plan covers networks “except LinkedIn and Twitter”. X is $10 a month per account |
| Hypefury | No free plan. A 7-day trial |
| Fedica (Followerwonk) | The Free plan has scheduling, no analytics |
| Hootsuite, Sprout Social, SocialPilot, Later, Brand24, Tweet Hunter | No free plan, only trials |
| Typefully, Zoho Social | Free plans exist, but X analytics starts on a paid plan |
| Audiense | Its pages no longer confirm a free plan with X analytics |
| Social Blade | Dropped support for X |
What to do
- Turn on X Analytics at analytics.x.com, or through an ads account. It costs nothing.
- Export the CSV on the first of each month. Thirty days per file, kept forever on your side.
- Add Buffer only if you schedule there. Its free history is 30 days, the same as one export.
- Read any “free X analytics” list for its date. Anything that still names Tweepi or TweetReach was not checked recently.
One number on every X dashboard needs care. X’s analytics leads with impressions, and every post also shows a public view count. Are those the same thing, and is either one a person reading your post? An impression is a post being served, which is not the same as a post being seen.
